Integrating UAVs and Canopy Height Models in Vineyard Management: A Time-Space Approach

The present study illustrates an operational approach estimating individual and aggregate vineyards’ canopy volume estimation through three years Tree-Row-Volume (TRV) measurements remotely sensed imagery acquired with unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Red-Green-Blue (RGB) digital camera, processed MATLAB scripts, validated ArcGIS tools. TRV methodology was applied by sampling a different number of rows plants (per row) each year the aim evaluating reliability accuracy this technique compared remote approach. empirical results indicate that estimated tree-row-volumes derived from UAV Canopy Height Model (CHM) are up to 50% those measured on field using routinary in 2019. difference is even much higher two 2016 dates. These findings outline importance data integration among techniques mix proximal sensing routine agronomic practices, helping reduce management costs increase environmental sustainability traditional cultivation systems.
